Phillip, drawing good curves is not automatic. It is the type designer's responsibility to draw smooth curves. There are software tools like RMX that help but they cannot read your mind. Practic…7 -

If you just want to fill the slots, make a lig which is not a lig. Put 'f" and "l" next to eachother as they would be if you typed them and you are done in a minute.3
